… and give us the excuse we need to kill you and topple your government.

Chavez is threatening war with Columbia, going so far as to put troops on the border, and actually telling his country to prepare for war, because the Colombians have given a ten year lease of their army bases to the American military. Speakth Chavez -”Don’t make a mistake, Mr. Obama, by ordering an attack against Venezuela by way of Colombia…” Right, because Obama is a real hawk.

America has been involved with Columbia for a long time. We have helped them fight their cartel problem, and our success together is one of the reasons the cartels moved to Mexico. Military cooperation is not unusual, and Chavez has an ideological fellow traveler in Obama, and he knows it. So, Chavez is warning Obama not to do something, which he would probably never do, in response to business as usual.

This leads to a few possibilities:

A) Chavez is unhinged enough that he thinks it is actually a possibility.

B) It is political posturing to stir up anti-American, and pro-Chavez, feeling in Venezuela. This is will particularly effective if he is seen as pulling Venezuela back from the brink of a war that was almost started by the Americans. He is the peacemaking, but still strong and brave, leader and the Americans are the bad guys.

C)  He is trying to bully or intimidate Columbia in general, or to make them do something he wants.

I’m thinking “B”, but I am hoping “A”. I would love to get rid of this tin pot dictator.
